I've been looking at 9mm pistols recently, and last month I posted the top 9mm pistols in 5 categories here. But, someone asked for a list of safe and reliable 9mm pistols under $300. it will be reliable and will perform its own security function. So I researched, shot and tested basic pistols with no rims and extra features and came up with this list of 9mm pistols under $300. These won't "break the bank" and offer basic functionality with enough power for self-defense. There are several 9mms under $300, but I only want to recommend those that I have no doubt about their accuracy, reliability and value for money based on 10 criteria. I have $300. I considered what other teachers had told me, what I had learned from my research, and the comments of military and police officers I respected. However, of course my budget list is very subjective and your list will also depend on your experience, opinion and standards. One of my winners is the Ruger Security-9, and here is my review and test.
Ruger Pistol 9mm
Ruger's Security-9 pistol uses the same Safe Action system as Ruger's successful LCP II with a light, short and smooth trigger. The Ruger Security-9 system uses an internal, coated hammer instead of a rod, which helps make it easier to operate. Hammer-only double action. For safety, the Ruger Security-9 has a trigger safety, manual thumb safety, and a hammer lock (recoil) that prevents the gun from firing unless the trigger is pulled. It has a Browning type tilting barrel lock. This solidly priced pistol has features often found in more expensive pistols and doesn't feel "cheap". The hammer, like a striker-fired rifle, recoils in part with the movement of the breech. Pulling the trigger completes the trigger cycle to fire the gun. This creates a single-action type feel with a short and smooth recoil point but is still a double-action pistol.

Below I provide the dimensions, specs and features of the Ruger Security-9 so you can see the similarities and dimensions of the famous, but more expensive, Glock 19 listed here. Then I will present the ten criteria and the results of the field test and the evaluation of their performance and the requirements of my criteria. You can compare its features and specifications to the top 21 concealed carry guns in my Concealed Carry and Handgun Essentials books. You can add or subtract from my terms to meet your needs and preferences. I was eager to shoot the budget Security-9 and compare it to other quality 9mm pistols to see if it ranks among the best concealment pistols, and if I recommend it, even as a budget pistol. .
Thanks to Ruger for loaning me this gun for testing and evaluation. Please understand that I am not on their payroll, I was not paid for this article, and I was not influenced to say certain things about guns. I want to be honest and straightforward with my thoughts and opinions when I find the gun to help the right people. I specifically want to know how accurate it is without modification. How big is his pull? Is the trigger smooth and crisp? How about resetting the distance for the next shot? is it reliable? What are the good, bad and special aspects? Are there any issues or problems that would prevent me from carrying this gun? What would I change about this gun? Is this gun for me to hand over for concealed carry and home defense?

Here are ten criteria and factors I use to evaluate all firearms, and I will use them for the Ruger Security-9 rifle. In addition to my criteria, other characteristics may appeal to some. For example:
So I've combined them into the final Miscellaneous Criterion. I have to admit that all weapon selection decisions involve compromises, but I really want to meet all the requirements I have. I scored ten points for every ten points to get a possible 100 points. Of course, you can add your own additional parameters, your preferences or remove one of mine.
Be aware that there are many features, specifications, advantages, and specifications to include and consider, and you make your own trade based on your priorities, preferences, specific needs, and usage.

To determine how the gun would perform and handle various loads, I used high-quality Sig Sauer Elite V-Crown JHP ammo in 115-, 124-, and 147-weight and FMJ 115. I am 50-60 American Eagle 115 FMJ. I have only fired about 200 rounds to evaluate this gun to determine if it is a solid and valuable concealed carry gun. I wanted to find out if it would do the job at 10 yards as a budget pistol without all the "whistles and bells". I got the information I needed after shooting. Below are my scores for each of the ten Safety-9 measures I made for hidden targets. I personally want to test its reliability and accuracy. I put the rifle on the rifle stage and carefully observed the failure, stoppage and performance of the JHP and FMJ rifles. I would like to thank Sig Sauer for providing 150 different Elite Performance bullets to test and evaluate the Safety-9.
The Ruger Security-9 in 9mm has excellent ergonomics. I could feel the thin grip on my hand, my husband's hand and the hands of two other teachers. It was comfortable and had a low axis to reduce sensitivity and prevent the muzzle from turning. I was able to grip and use the gun well with the correct rubber composition. My pinky finger didn't hang under the 15 round magazine when I picked it up; no pink hanging. The ergonomics of this gun are very good for an expensive gun. And the two 15 round metal gave me extra spin and peace of mind. The coil grip and rounded corners are perfect for me and fit well. I could easily reach all the controls. It wasn't easy for my husband and I to move around, and felt the recoil and lift of the lip was manageable. My wife also likes the ergonomics and the shot.
One thing I don't like is the small size and the thickness of the book
